Overview of Duvayl

Duvayl is one of the bigger and most well known kingdoms in the world of Urroa. They are known for their humble beginnings and humble living. While most kingdoms have taken on more modern appearances, Duvayl strives to keep a more rustic and natural charm. Save for a few buildings of note, most of their homes and businesses are housed in smaller cottage-like buildings of many sizes, made of everything from wood to cob. Duvayl also aspires to live peacefully alongside nature as much as possible, with many of their buildings and technology being powered through natural and magical means.

The people of Duvayl are also some of the most spiritual you’d come across. Living in the birthplace of Starkin kind, and being the home of the first and oldest temples in the world, you’d kind of have to be. Their faith is something that is taken rather seriously by most of the older folk, but some newer generations have been far more lax. Older folks blame technology, but a lot of the others don’t see the harm in loving and showing gratefulness for life in its own ways.

Living and growing up in Duvayl has lots of ups and downs. Some of the biggest pros being guaranteed shelter, food, education, and care of any kind. It didn’t always used to be like that, but the recent royals have made strives for the betterment of the Starkins of Duvayl. The current queen, Delinda, being the most outspoken in this endeavor. However, no kingdom is perfect, as much as the dear queen wishes she could have eyes everywhere to stop every injustice. Some of the downs of the kingdom, and one of the biggest, is its puritanism.

Duvayl is one of the most spiritual and faithful kingdoms and unfortunately that comes with extremists. Many that turn their nose up at others they deem to be going against the Deity’s wishes, and even believe them living in such a holy kingdom is an insult. There have even been whispered rumors of other Starkins icing out others to the point of complete isolation just to drive them out. Other rumors are of far more extreme measures. If there has been violence, it’s never been documented as the guards work tirelessly to prevent it.

Life in Duvayl

Duvayl is considered one of the most peaceful kingdoms in Urroa, and is known for being the oldest and most faithful. Their soldiers are the most loyal, as are their people. Usually anyway. There will always be the outlier, but over all the people are happy and happy to be there, with everyone there feeling safe enough to leave their doors unlocked, and let their Starlits run about freely, trusting them to either return to the Nursery or Home before too late.

The kingdom sits in a large valley, surrounded by mountains on all sides. It has a temperate climate with wet but pleasant springs, warm and usually just as wet summers, beautiful autumns, and just as beautiful but harsh winters.

Farms and Ranches dot Duvayl, growing crops and raising animals and livestock both unique and familiar! They make the kingdom very self-sufficient, and Duvayl usually never has an issue staying fed. Unless there is a sudden blight or unnaturally harsh weather, the crops and food sources stay secure.

Technology plays a big role in keeping things inline in Duvayl of course. A combination of magic, refined metals and glass, along with some good old fashioned electricity helps make life easier and more entertaining! Duvayl uses nothing but natural means and resources (along with magical) to power their everyday devices. Games, radio, television, and computers are just some of the few things all Starkins alike enjoy for entertainment. Some of the older generation often feel Starlits spend too much time on them though.

Despite all of this though, there are NO automobiles in the world of Starkins! But there ARE modes of public transport. For those who don’t have the stamina, lack of wings, or just wanna travel comfortably with friends or on their own, there are airships and trains! Walking or pulled wagons are usually the mode of transport within the kingdom, with the trains and airships being ways in and out of Duvayl. It’s not uncommon to see little Starlits excitedly chasing them as they soar through the sky.

Notable Locations

The Silver Fang Train Station: A station beloved by tourists and locals alike, it’s admired for its beautiful architecture and murals. It also has a number of lovely gift shops and restaurants inside that anyone passing through would love stopping by.

Currently though, the trains aren’t running, and the shops close a lot sooner due to lack of tourists…

Urrous Park: A large and beautiful park filled with plenty to do for Starkins of all ages. A lake in the center to paddle boats across, playgrounds and sandboxes for little Starlits, and lots of benches for little old ladies to sit and feed birds with. Everyone has to have a picnic there at least once!

The Golden Wing Airship Dock: A large and impressive structure that sits on one of Duvayl’s mountain tops. While not as big as the train station, it’s still admired for its large stained glass window depicting the Sun and Moon Deities that shines beautifully into the dock every sunset.

While all ships are grounded for the time being, the Dock stays open so the window can still be admired. Many Starlits miss the Airships though…

Crescent Moon Mall: A lovely outdoor shopping center filled with just about everything you can think of. Food, clothes, toys, jewelry, and even an old fashioned candy shop that sells shakes and floats! It’s a favored meeting place for Starkins to spend time together, or small families wanting some good ole Food Court eats! It even has a small play center for young ones!

The Royal: Duvayl’s largest, and only, resort and hotel. While it’s a more popular spot for tourists, it’s just as popular with the locals who crave a relaxing evening, or fun night out on the town. With its luxurious spa, hotsprings, restaurant, bar and rooms it’s a place fitting for royalty. Also no kiddos are allowed in after sundown. Sorry! But adults deserve free time too!

As of now, it’s still running, but the owner seems VERY unhappy over the lack of tourism at the moment.

Obsidian Cave and Glass Spire Beach: Duvayl’s newest locations go hand in hand due to the fact if you wanna visit one, you often end up with the other. Obsidian cave is, as its name implies, a long beautiful cave of pure obsidian. Many Starkin love to visit it to see it shimmer under the walkway lights that were built through it to make walking through the cave easier. And the walk was made easier, since at the end of the cave you’re welcomed by large, curved spires of glass on either side of the walkway, before making your way to the beach on the other side of the mountain. Glass Spire beach is a beloved spot for all who come to and live in Duvayl. The sand is white, and the ocean is the most dazzling blue. A beloved spot for any family wanting to have some summer fun!

Queen Delinda nor Prince Joey have ever even seen the caves or beach though…they weren’t even there for its ribbon cutting or grand opening, and they’re at every one! It would seem like the royal family isn’t very fond of the locations…
